Owners Proposal for 2020

Today the MLB Owners are meeting on the phone to vote on a proposal to give to the players union.  The biggest impasse at getting the 2020 season started is agreeing upon how much the players will be paid to play in 2020.  We shall see if the owners come up with something more than a 50/50 revenue sharing (owners latest bid) and less than what the players union supposedly already agreed to – same pay, but adjusted for the length of the season.

  1. Once we find out how many games there will be, and once we get close to an Opening Day, we can resume guessing as to the 2020 Dodger Wins and Losses.

  2. Question: If team owners are crying that they will lose money across the board. How will they justify signing any available free-agents??? Or will they not sign any more players and increase payroll???

        My answer is absolutely not!

    2. It’s kinda hard to replace the ingredients in an enchilada with rice. It’s easier in a big burrito. The taco truck is where all the day old ingredients go, so double the price seems a little out of line to me. At $5 bucks. I went two times or more a week. Same with $6 bucks. Then at $8 bucks it was a special occasion. $10 bucks is too much for a burrito in Idaho.

  3. The owners presented a proposal to the Players Union (MLBPA) in which the salaries would be cut on a sliding scale. Players with lower salaries would have a lower percentage reduction, while players with a higher salary would have a greater percentage reduction. For example, a player with a $1 million contract would be paid $434,000. A player with a $35 million contract would be paid $7.8 million.

Players and owners seem to be still far apart on the financials, as the MLBPA doesn’t like the proposal.

    1. I also read that the employees of the Dodgers making above $75,000.00 have to take a pay cut, of up to 35% instead of being layed-off. Some clubs chose to lay folks off. Remember when the Dodgers used the national ticket price excuse to raise the cost of going to the game. Maybe folks should turn the tables on them now?

  5. One thing I learned from the failed diet. Was that food cooked at home regardless of what it is, usually taste a lot better. I went to McDonalds and was unimpressed. I ordered pizza from two different places and was unimpressed. Although the deep dish place is my fave still. I suck at dieting. It is what it is. And tomorrow I’m prepping to not die with my boots on but an ice cream bar in hand.

I went to pick up groceries earlier and as I was doing 5 mph over the speed limit, I passed an elderly lady in a brand new car, with a brand new license plate holder, that said, “I’d rather be in the new system!” She was doing 5 mph under the speed limit in the fast lane. Most folks do 10-20 mph over the speed limit on this 2 lane road. The new system lady had about 20 cars backed up behind her with no place to go

And the biggest not applying safety standards was her inability to wear a mask. I asked her why she didn’t have one on. Her response was her glasses fog up. I kindly said but my lungs get infected and most likely will get really sick. She made a facial expression as if to say. I don’t give a fuck! Okay, fair enough young lady. I then drove home and called the manager Fransisco. He told me Idaho laws don’t require masks and that he couldn’t enforce that policy. I told him okay, fair enough Fransisco, but you have management skills do you not. He assured me he did. I then explained to him that I do as well, many, many years in this regard. I would use my management skills to explain to the nice girl how important it is that we make out folks feel safe when purchasing our product just as most all other places are doing. I would also buy her some inexpensive substance that prevents her glasses from forging up. That if she wasn’t willing to do that, I would give her a can of disinfectant and make her sanitize the place when she was available. I then asked him to have the owner call me or give me the owners number. He said he couldn’t do either. Fuck you basically. So I informed him that that name and number was filed with the state under doing business as. That when I am done complaining he will care more about how his presentation of his place of livelihood is presented. I get it. You think this is all virus is Looney Tunes, but as a place of business you should leave the political thoughts aside and act with caution. Just

Once I was the only person on the driving range that covers several acres. The other time I sat in my fishing chair at the oil changing place far away from everyone. I did wear my mask that day. Thanks for the advice, I was livid earlier. Dumbest freaking excuse I have ever heard not from a politician. But if you are at a drive thru window handing me my food that you have carefully protected for my safety. Wear a mask. I mean McDonalds had the set up. Only I touched my card. The kid had gloves, and we only cane closer then 6 feet for the brief second it took to extend the card reader. Dominos angered me the night before when they wouldn’t text me that they were at the door. I can’t hear them knocking. I didn’t want them knocking on the 80 year olds door either. 10. hav been a customer of your restaurant for a number of years. I have always enjoyed the kind hospitality that has been extended. Today, I encountered some disturbing issues related to my severe COPD issues and the young lady serving me at drive-thru. After asking her why she wasn’t protecting me by wearing a mask, such as most every other place I have been does, she told me it fogged up her glasses. I told her that she would not get sick from this yet I have a high probability too from her inability to protect me. When I told her I was hard of hearing and couldn’t understand her she leaned in even closer to me rather then just speak louder. I called the store and talked to the manager at 10:30 am. He told me that there wasn’t a law requiring anyone to wear a mask. Then asked me what he was supposed to do. Now, I’ve managed many employees as well as my own business in the past. I would use my management skills to explain the importance of representing the brand name by exerting extreme confidence that we can serve the public safely. If they refuse to wear a simple mask at a drive-thru, what should I think is allowed out of sight. Both of your representatives basically told me to climb a tree. The manager in question refused to pass along my number or pass along yours. Your number being passed I can understand in today’s world, accepting mine and passing it along I do not. The girl at the window shrugged her shoulders as if to say I do not care about you or your issues. Again I am severely disappointing as I have always looked forward to eating at this store. I understand we have very few cases in our region, but I also understand that we need to use caution and common sense in this regard as well. We don’t need laws to exert the last two gestures. We need compassion for our fellow man. That’s all. I hope you at least read this and thank you for your time. I’m really disappointed that I no longer have confidence in your crew.

  15. Time for a little ultimatum play.
MLB should extend the current offer on pay and let the players decide individually on who wants to accept and play and who wants to sit out the season.
One additional provision – since all the owners insist how they’re going to lose so much money without fans in the stands and depending on TV revenue only, let’s take them at their word; however, any profit that is generated at the end of the season by any club shall be turned over and split proportionately among that club’s players only. There should also be instituted an audit procedure to make sure that the profitability is fairly measured and agreeable to both sides.
How much fairer could that be?

But, they will gouge the hearts of the fans just like Frank McCourt did until the fans stop coming, just like the fans did with Frank McCourt. MLB and the players union doesn’t give a crap about being fair.

  16. I read Boras’ reasoning for advising the players not to bail out the owners at the expense of their own pay, and I agree with him up to a point. His take was that the owners have taken on too much debt, first in obtaining their franchises, then by getting additional debt for improvements to the stadiums and frequently for additional commercial properties surrounding the stadiums, which all-together increases the value of the franchise that ultimately benefits only the owner. Kind of like borrowing the money in order to get a license to “steal/print” more money by then offering the game and its players to the fans, and we know how the fans have been taken advantage of over the years.

Therefore, getting back to my earlier suggestion I would say that the costs to repay any loans that the franchises carry should not be counted as normal expenses when arriving at how the revenues from TV coverage are shared with the players – let the Guggenheims and all others repay loans strictly out of their own pockets. If some franchises go under in that event, there will be only too many smaller businesses that will also go under due to this virus thing, so I won’t feel sorry for the big franchise owners.

MLB however governs themselves and is allowed a monopoly of sorts in the name of America. The only real fair solution is for the fans to say enough is enough and for the government to acknowledge that MLB is governing themselves solely on profits for themselves and be stripped of the leverage the behold.

The union is strong and has secured incredible salaries for these guys. I like your other idea better, though: Shit can the season. I’m actually more bummed that the Tour de France is delayed. THAT has been my summer entertainment for a long, long time.

The same governor who told Donald Trump he wasn’t welcomed in New York anymore. Congress isn’t acting in this manner either. He should zip it as well.

This will also cause other folks in the area of topic to want to do the same. In places where there isn’t a deep threshold of wealth to maintain attendance, baseball will suffer I think. Overall if I had to take a guess, baseball will lose profits and fans. But, baseball could always expand the game across the borders after they shun Americans.

I still believe that holding a handcuffed person down by applying pressure to his neck is murder. But all of this other stuff shouldn’t be overlooked all in the same.
